The year 2017 will likely go down in history as one of the most dysfunctional years in Congress. We have a President who has the lowest approval rating of any sitting President in the history of approval ratings, and sexual assault seems to have become an epidemic across the nation.

As a community here in Florida we have dealt with floods from Hurricane Harvey, the impact of Hurricane Irma and our neighbors in Puerto Rico are still lacking the power and water they need to survive, let alone rebuild after Hurricane Maria.

This year has also been a personal challenge. My mother who was my biggest cheerleader, treasurer, and best friend, passed away in a June. I’ve struggled with health issues and our daughter gave birth to our second grandchild.

This past year sure helped me realize a few things; some good, some not good. One thing is for sure, no matter what was happening, I could not stop thinking about the people right here in Florida’s 17th Congressional District.

No matter what obstacle needs to be tackled, whether I'm running to flip a district from red to blue, copping with personal tragedy, struggling in the face of adversity, celebrating pure joy or helping my community prepare and recover from a disaster -- I'm a fighter who will continue advocating for a better future.

Which is why after careful consideration and deep reflection, it is with great pride and honor that I'm announcing that I have decided to dedicate the next several months of my life to being elected in 2018 as the next representative for Florida’s 17th Congressional in the United States House of Representatives.

I have traveled around this district talking to voters from all walks of life —I’ve learned there is more that unites us than divides us.

We all care about the economy.

We all care about the environment.

We all care about education.

We all want to live in a country that provides us Equality, Justice and Peace!

We all want to leave this world a better place for our children and grand-children.

In Congress, I will serve with dignity, and I will work to create more economic opportunity for hard working Americans.

In Congress, I will fight for EQUALITY to once and for all end discrimination.

In Congress, I will work to ensure women get equal pay for equal work.

In Congress, I will safeguard social security and protect your pension, because you have earned it.

In Congress, I will be a Fierce protector for our precious environment and fight for a robust local economy.

This campaign has never been about how much money we’ve raised —but let's be honest, the money helps run this campaign.

This campaign is about changing our Representation in Washington and sending someone who makes PEOPLE THE PRIORITY.

This campaign is about giving grassroots a voice and challenging the ESTABLISHMENT, POLITICS-AS-USUAL, GO-WITH-THE-FLOW MENTALITY.

This campaign is about fighting to ensure every person receives healthcare, because good coverage is a basic human right, not a privilege for the elite.

This campaign is about standing up to lobbyist’s and special interests.

This campaign is about taking dark money out of Washington by reversing Citizens United to take back our democracy.

This campaign has NEVER been about me —This campaign is about all of us and the future of our nation.

Always here for you,
April
