April Freeman Challenges Clawson to Drug Test
Southwest Florida voters have a right to expect that their representative in Congress will be drug-free and clear. For that reason, I am challenging Curt Clawson to take a drug test – the same drug test I am taking.
In fact, I’m going to make it as easy on Curt as possible. He can test at any convenient LabCorp location any time between 9:30 am and 3 pm in the next 48 hours. I’ll even pick up the tab.
Ordinarily, I would not suggest a drug test for congressional candidates. However, these are not ordinary circumstances. We are engaged in a special election precisely because these are special circumstances and our past representative’s drug use was a key factor.
As I have said before, those who choose to enter public life and seek elective office must expect that, to some extent, their private lives will be subject to public scrutiny and drug tests are part of that scrutiny.
The people of Southwest Florida’s 19th District do not need a gimmick—like a basketball shootout. They deserve a serious and trustworthy representative who puts their interests first.
So let’s do this, Curt. It’s fast, painless and the people deserve to know the results.
April Freeman's comment on Mr. Clawson's response
"We are delighted that Curt has agreed to take the test and share his results. This fortifies our commitment to drug-free representation for Southwest Florida. We would like to see him take the test in the timeframe we setup—a snap test like many employers require."
