The Florida AFL-CIO Endorses April Freeman for Congress
“Fights for working families”
Jacksonville, FL—The 900,000-member Florida AFL-CIO endorsed the candidacy of April Freeman for Congress to represent Florida’s 19th District in the U.S. House. President Mike Williams praised Freeman’s record of standing up for labor against special interests.
"We look forward to April Freeman’s principles following her to Washington," Williams said.
“We need leaders in Congress who will stand up for their constituents, and that’s why we’re proud give our endorsement to April Freeman to represent Florida’s 19th District,” said Williams. “Many important policies that affect working families are decided in the halls of our nation’s Capitol. We know that Ms. Freeman will fight every day to make sure those policies will make our communities stronger.”
The endorsement took place at the 2014 Florida AFL-CIO’s COPE Endorsing Convention, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. More than 170 delegates, representing local unions and labor councils throughout the state were in attendance.
Following the endorsement, Freeman released this statement:
"I am honored and humbled by the Florida AFL-CIO’s endorsement. It is a game changer—a major step forward in restoring dignity to Southwest Florida’s seat in Congress and bringing reform to Washington. I deeply and sincerely appreciate the support of Florida’s hard working union members.”
