North Fort Myers, FL: April Freeman, Democratic candidate for Congress US House District 17 has signed and pledged her support to the nonpartisan Now or Neverglades Petition.
The Now or Neverglades Petition is a non partisan grassroots effort by the people to stop the deadly discharges from Lake Okeechobee, buy the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Lands south of Lake Okeechobee to restore the natural flow, improve the health of Lake Okeechobee, and protect the drinking water for Floridians. It is supported by over 200 scientists through the state.
While making a radio appearance on WSRQ Sarasota yesterday, April signed the petition, vowing to support environmental efforts to fix the massive damage caused by the Lake Okeechobee water releases.
“It’s one of the fixes people have been pushing for. We do need to start to do something, we are destroying Florida. It’s a paradise… We are going to destroy tourism, too, if we don’t do anything.” said April on WSRQ.
April has been an environmental activist for years where she has followed the water release issues from Lake Okeechobee and its surrounding estuaries. April has long supported buying the EAA lands for many years and recently proposed an innovative non-political solution to Lake Okeechobee, by asking the President under the Antiquities Act of 1906 to declare Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding lands a national monument.
