North Fort Myers, FL: On Friday, August 5th during one of the first major non-partisan polls for the United States House of Representatives 17th Congressional District seat, the Democratic Nominee - April Freeman defeated Republican Incumbent Rep. Tom Rooney, and the NPA Tea Party Candidate John Sawyer. Final vote tallies were Freeman 50%, Rooney 46.6%, and Sawyer 3.4%.
The Political Hobnob and nonpartisan straw poll was hosted by the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, that attracted nearly 200 residents from Polk county and featured candidates ranging from school board all the way up to U.S. President
Straw Poll Winners emerged from all parties of the political spectrum - Republicans, Democrats, and Non-Partisan candidates.
“I believe my message is resonating with the people of our district who see beyond party lines, because they are desperately in need for change, and true representation,” and “they are looking for a champion, and a fighter,” said Freeman. Adding “the constituents of Florida CD17 seem to clearly understand that I’m a fighter who is championing to be their voice, in Washington.”
This win advances April’s strong path to victory heading towards November. Voting data gives April slightly more than a 48% base vote, and established by this poll, a much higher likely outcome in November.
April Freeman is a candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Florida’s 17th Congressional District, where she will be a “New Voice For a New District.”
